Randy, last time I played I got second place but I don't see it on the home game section and I didn't get any points. Also, it says that there was a game on 07/16/10, but we were in Vegas when this happened. I think that game got mixed up with the one I was in.
Thanks,
George

Hey George, thanks for the heads-up and all apologies for the delay. Been busy tryin' to rework Currentfix into an app for iPhone but all those plans went down the tubes a couple of days ago when I found out that Apple gave Adobe the middle finger yet again! :( Aaaand, I'm also looking to revamp the site in time for the twins' poker party (a.k.a. Main Event).
Good news though, I found the game that you are referring while cleaning up my desk and will be catching up the "Home Game" section within the week.

Great HGPC Event Stop #3

Hey guys, thanks for coming out to Event Stop #3. A big thanks to the hosts, Nolan and Charm, for providing a great venue for the event. Congrats to the winners...a well deserved kudos goes to all of those who spent 6+ hours grinding it out for the prize money. In hindsight, one thing we failed to regulate, though, was the "chopping" of the prize money....HGPC events are supposed to simulate "real world" tournament play like the WPT and the WSOP. The WPT and WSOP DO NOT allow chopped pots in their big-game, broadcasted tournaments. I think we should have paid out a 1st and 2nd place winner because 1) It prevents collusion (whether direct or indirect) between 2 players to knock out a 3rd place finisher 2) It helps simulate real world tournament play 3) We can crown a "True" winner who will receive a free buy-in to the Main Event. As a result, no one from event stop #3 will get the free Main Event buy-in. We'll probably need to discuss this further with the rules committee before we decide to do another event. Let me know what you think. Thanks again to all the players for attending!

I certainly agree with all that Noel mentioned above. Although I did agree with chopping up the prize pool I couldn't help feel a little uneasy about finishing the tournament that way. I definitely back up everything that's stated here. The main reason why I went for the chop was the sleepy eyes around the table and I didn't want to keep Noel & Charm's house occupied longer than it already was. I'm sure they were okay with it, but I would've felt more comfortable in playing on had it not been so late.
I have a suggestion though. If it please the court, maybe me and Keng can finish the tournament. We were almost identical in chipstacks so it wouldn't be difficult to recreate the circumstances. Whaddya guys think?

So yesterday was the big day, and I really have to tell you all that this is by far THE BEST tournament I have ever played. And I've payed up to $330 at one time to play a nice tournament, but after playing at this event I really don't see any worth in playing any other tournament except for a WSOP or WPT event. The structure as I've illustrated before is top-notch, world-class, and definitely favors skill over luck by a huge margin! We're talking about an event that started off with 283 players, and with four tables to go, players on average had a stack of 30-40 big blinds. One of the aspects that made the event so great was the extremely flat blind structure AND the fact that the blind levels actually increase in time length the deeper you go in the tournament.
Though this was the event I've been looking forward to play for the longest time, I actually ended up hitting the rail first after four hours of play. The unfortunate thing was that even though I quickly knew who the fish were I really couldn't catch any hands to capitalize on any situations. I'd limp my fair share of suited connectors and pairs but I couldn't make anything happen or win anything even if it did go check all the way. I stole a few pots here and there but nothing so significant as to give my stack a real boost. The only real hand I received was my last one, which was kings. And that got cracked by queens on the flop. SICK!
After that horrendous beat, I left the room to get some air and had some lunch at the adjacent cafe. They had some really good and tasty pastrami burgers! By the time I returned to the room, I found Jay at the same table as Uncle Tex. Jay pretty much coasted with an average stack and did a great job trying to stay above the blinds. Unfortunately, Jay couldn't catch enough cards or situations to accumulate chips. A few hours after my bust, he eventually had to go with nines preflop, only to run into queens. OUCH! That's pretty cold.
Uncle Tex, on the other hand, started off the tournament with a great start. By the first break, he was sitting on a 14K stack while me and Jay were still hovering around the starting stack of 8K. I have to give much props to Uncle Tex because he really broke my expectations. To be honest, I was a bit worried that his home game antics would harm his prospects in a tournament like this. But, thankfully, that was not the case. Uncle Tex can actually play a very solid, thoughtful game of poker when bigger money is on the line! I witnessed a few well-timed bluffs, some impressive laydowns, as well as some equally impressive calls. He definitely showed good, disciplined instincts at the table which allowed him to get deep into the tournament. Though he played a great early & mid-game, I found his late-game to be problematic. There were a couple of bad habits and tendencies that really kept Uncle Tex from reaching the final table. If he were to avidly seek out and destroy these detractors, there is no doubt that Uncle Tex can be a really great tournament player.
To sum up, Uncle Tex made a very nice cash at 23rd place out of 283 players. A very impressive run from a very surprising Uncle Tex! Again, I cannot reiterate this enough. For all you guys who love poker, this event cannot be missed!! I promise you it will be fun. Shoot, I had fun despite the fact I was on the rail for eight hours! Next year, though, we'll have Currentfix hats & t-shirts!! ;D

Home Game Circuit Event #1 - Are you ready?

Hey guys, just wanted to relay a message to you guys about a brand spankin' new home "Circuit" game that will hopefully involve our home game crew, Noel's friends' home game crew, plus all the other non-regulars that are interested. If you're reading this and you are interested in (A) playing a bigger field, (B) playing a flatter structured game, (C) showing people who's boss, (D) enjoy the company of others or (E) you like taking your friends' money, then shoot Noel an email at noelmasiclat(AT)gmail.com or hit him up on his phone to let him know you're in so he can get head-count!
This first Circuit game is scheduled to go down this coming weekend at Noel's parents' house @ 2pm, inside the garage and inside the house!! He's hoping for a 30+ field AND FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED! But, if you should be so kind to bring your own food for a potluck type of deal that would also be fantas-great! For more information don't hesitate to contact Noel!!

Thanks everyone for coming out to Cicuit Event #1 and helping to make it fun and an enjoyable day and night of poker craziness. I guess some people still didn't learn the lesson Joan taught us at the Pirate Poker tourney a few years back...."DON'T DRINK AND GAMBLE!!!" Huuuuurrrrrkkkkk!!!!
Also, I want to thank currentfix.com for helping me get through a tough field of players and cashing at the first HGPC event. The articles on this blog give me TREMENDOUS insight on how to play winning poker! Thanks Randy...heh, heh, heh! BTW, the mini-pecan cupcakes were awesome!

More Info About Rincon
So I was looking through WSOP.COM and found out some hard info about the event we're trying to satellite into. Based on Arnold Snyder's "Patience Factor" equations the target tournament is indeed THE DEFINITIVE "Bang-For-Buck" tournament you will ever see in the San Diego area at any given time! * For more information about Arnold Snyder you can check out his website here. For those who like to read books I do suggest his "Poker Tournament Formula" series because they are not only a fun read, but they are also a treasure trove of helpful insights to how you should approach AND play tournaments of any given type.
So anyhow, I've taken the liberty of transcribing the tournament structure below so you can see just how good it is. 50-75?!?! FUNKY GOODNESS! As far as when we should hold this satellite, I'll go ahead and suggest that we do it on Saturday, March 16th, which is exactly three weeks from now. Expect a phone call from me as I'll be compiling a list of people who are IN. If you should happen to be busy on that particular day, I'll see if I can't work something out that'll work for everyone who is interested!
I'm also going to go ahead and make a suggestion on how we handle the satellite, and would like to hear what you guys think about it. I've discussed this with a couple of people already, but would like to know how you guys feel about doing the satellite with a structure that is DEEPER and LONGER than how our usual home game is set up. There are two good reasons to do this:
•
Following a deeper-structured tournament would effectively serve as a live practice run for the real event.
•
Deeper structures favor the more-worthy (for lack of a better term) rather than the lucky.
So tell me what you guys think by posting, emailing (randor_619(at)yahoo.com), calling or speaking with me at the next home game!
Oh, and here is the structure for the actual WSOP circuit event. This is just to show you how good their tournament is.

March 16th? That's me and Nelette's anniversary...SWEET! It will be a poker anniversary party! Everyone's invited!
Randy, according to your deeper blind structure, the satellite game will be at LEAST 12+ hours of playing poker for Day 1 and 9+ hours of poker on Day 2? Is this correct?
Suggestion for the satellite...maybe you should have a submission form on this website to get a headcount on who will be participating? First 15 people to sign up get the spot.
Just throwing ideas out there. Thanks for the updates!

About the structure, I did the same time calculations and found out that if you made it to Day 2, you would be playing more than 12 hours! You can check out the source at WSOP on that and see if I didn't make any errors in my transcription.
As far as the satellite goes, it looks like a no go after all. I've already asked 5 poker die-hards about their availability and they pretty much cannot be available for the dates of the events because they have work. I've already made an assumption that other people with jobs can't do it as well so I've scrapped the whole idea.
BUT, if you (Noel & Nelette) can go and are serious about going, let me know. I'm definitely going, and I'm trying to get JayBoy to come because he's really interested.
And that goes for anyone out there who has the free time & money to go!

Satellite Ideas...
Been poker-surfing the web lately and it has come to my attention that Harrah's Rincon is holding its annual WSOP Circuit events beginning Thursday, March 18. If I can manage to find a ride, I think I would DEFINITELY play in one of their cheaper events. Though there are no details yet posted on their site right now, I looked at some archives and found out from last years event list that the lowest buyin offered is $230. The payouts in those were really good, averaging about $25,000 for 1st place. Of course, you'd probably have to battle through a field of 500 to 600 peeps, but this is one of the few tournaments that give you excellent "Bang-For-Buck" due to the great structures offered at WSOP events!
So I was thinking, maybe we could hold a satellite for one of these events! I was looking at the list of players we have and it looks like we have about 15 people who might seem interested in playing one of these events. $15 buyin satellite, winner takes the seat, while the satellite participants get a percentage of any cash made by the satellite winner. Fiddle around with the tool below to explore the possibilities!
Tool For Splitting Prizes
Well, if anything, this would give you an idea of the many ways a prize can be split. For example you could see how a split would occur if someone made the bare mininum or you can see how the split would work with many people involved. I figure that doing a WSOP satellite would be quite a stretch since the minimum buyin for an event is $1000. At least at Rincon, you get to play nice tournament at a lower price. So would anyone interested in doing a satellite for the Rincon
Posted on February 17th, 2010 at 11:40 pm
I like this idea. I think we could make it an even 20 dollars for gas or whatever. We could do it twice for two different winners, or make it 30-40 bucks and send top two.
